MORDOR, a component of the SYNTHESYS project, will investigate the full range of issues arising from the use of microsamples of bone specimens, including the practicalities of sampling, extraction, heterogeneous DNA distribution and increased contamination risk. The success of MORDOR will open up the majority of the bone specimens that were previously not available for sampling, as they are much too valuable to permit user access. This includes type specimens, bone artefacts and very small specimens.

Work on MORDOR begins in Autumn 2010.
